Jackson Purchase Senior Behavioral Health Opens Doors to Newly Expanded Unit
November 21, 2022
Jackson Purchase Medical Center (JPMC) opened its newly expanded Senior Behavioral Health Unit (SBHU) with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, Nov. 18.
The ceremony, which was attended by JPMC staff and providers, Mayfield/Graves County Chamber of Commerce members, and Mayor Kathy Stewart O’Nan, marked the opening of an additional wing that includes three new cohabitant patient rooms, a shower room and two group therapy rooms. With the expansion of the unit, JPMC will be able to help meet the growing mental health needs of individuals aged 55 and older in the community by taking its capacity from 12 to 18 total patient beds.
“We are committed to providing compassionate mental healthcare to vulnerable individuals with Alzheimer's and Dementia or other mental health issues,” said SBHU Director Samantha Crittendon, RN, BSN. “Our caring, professional staff will continue to advocate for these individuals and provide support and resources.”
Dr. Rakesh Chandra, who has more than forty years of experience in the inpatient and outpatient treatment of addiction and psychiatric conditions, is the founder, president and medical director of RASSIK Complete Recovery as well as the medical director for JPMC’s SBHU. Dr. Sidharth Chandra and Kayla Garrott, APRN also see patients in the unit.
An inpatient stay in the SBHU is designed to educate patients and families to better manage their conditions and ongoing recovery by developing healthier coping skills and a safe and secure follow-up plan for post-discharge care. Patients can be admitted to the unit via the emergency department or from an outpatient referral.
For more information about the unit or how to get admitted, call 270.251.4250 or visit our SBHU page.
